3 Overlooked Foods to Boost Immunity this Flu Season

We often think of vitamin C as preventative during flu season. While this may help, it is not the only nutrient that can be of benefit. It is unfortunate that supportive nutrients are not spoken of much. Consider these 3 superfoods this flu season:

  1. Shiitake Mushrooms - these mushrooms are rich in B6, niacin, choline, & folate, selenium, cooper, zinc, and manganese; all important for brain function and immune system.

  2. Spirulina - this blue-green algae is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. You can purchase it in powdered form at your local health store. Incorporate 1 TBSP into a smoothie at least a few times per week during flu season. Bonus - research indicates regular use of Spirulina may also help reduce seasonal allergies to ragweed and pollen.

  3. Papaya - anti-inflammatory, rich in B-complex vitamins, enhances immunity, and reduces stress. Bonus - papaya is anti-aging and can help with weight loss.

As always, consult your natural health care practitioner prior to changing your diet.
