Why train this? Any tricks you teach your dog becomes part of cognitive enrichment so essential for your dog's health. Tricks also increase bonding, build confidence, and are fun to show your friends. Bonus: this is a trick that may be used as one of the selections for gaining a Trick Dog Title. The technique I used to train this may surprise you. It is rooted in the foundation of shaping. Another tip for training is to provide warm ups and balance breaks especially when teaching new behaviors. We did a warm up in this session. Since it was recorded, that allowed me to see that Dewey's DOWN was only a partial down- we will need to work on that for consistency. Taping yourself while training is a great strategy to enlighten yourself to things you may not have noticed otherwise.
